Something’s Going on So after my posts in the last week (yes I know there was a flurry of them), I have been looking through OJF and it’s back end / front end coding and then realised something. This new design (I use the term new loosely) was put live way back in March 2010, which seems so long ago when I say it. Although it really doesn’t feel like it has been that long, that the new design has been up.

All of this has got me thinking, especially as I have been rather poor at creating new content for the site and never updating the news section. A plan has been formulating in my head of ways I could add to OJF, these then broke into a re-evaluation of the site and how I currently use it. With the workshop being the section I update most regularly, I have decided to keep this as is.

The overall plan for the next couple of months will be to look at every section of the site and work out what should stay/go although I may just try to archive things in a section of the site. I also want to hopefully integrate Jquery/Ajax into the site more, I did try previously but it all went wrong and became to overly complicated for the visitor than the way it currently is. Another possibly idea is to free up the news section for just that, news. A lot of the time I find myself not posting any news for a while then writing a long news piece that’s more like a digest or a blog of the last few months. To do this I would be looking to create a blog type section for the site which I would then use hopefully more often and the news part of the site can be freed up for news at last.

Lastly in the master plan, unsurprisingly would be a site re-design. Although at this moment my design head has far too many ideas all that don’t work together so it is very incoherent. It feels a little like a kid in a sweet shop who wants everything but can only have one thing. I feel though that the site content re-evaluation will help to streamline this as once I know what is staying and what is going I should be able to put together a better out/lay plan for a design.

Lastly, I just have to say that after the server issue of last week, it looks like I have managed to sort the permissions issue as well and all flash games with high scores should now be working properly. So go try and see if you can beat one of the high scores today!
